Grapevine: Crisis Core Update…

Crisis Core Special Edition..

Ok so I got an email from Game.co.uk . And they are starting Pre-Orders for Crisis Core ‘Special Edition’. Which is something I’ve been looking forward too.

It comes with a special hardback ‘Art Book’ and it looks like it comes in a special hard sleeve to hold both book and game case. Now I want this and was jumping at the chance to purchase.

Do you feel a but coming? Here it comes…

But, it’s not shipping till, wait for it, 1st of June. Thats THREE MONTHS AWAY (ok slightly less but still). Now what kind of mean nipple torture tactic is this, they know full well that it will sell over here, why have such a stupid promotion now? This is why executives shouldn’t be allowed to control companies that sell products that only their kids seem to understand. They make stupid decisions and we get weed on from a distance.

And yes I did preorder. I am a fool! (But a happy fanboy)

Grapevine: Guitar Hero ‘On Tour’

Friday, March 21st, 2008

grapevine1.gif

The New DS Guitar Hero Contoller for Guitar Hero ‘On Tour’So Guitar hero is coming to the Nintendo DS and this (see photo) is the result… weird. It’s not enough that it’s on every home console alive but now it’s here for the bus journeys!

Details of this new Guitar Hero title surfaced on the interweb in the last few days and to be honest I’m not sold. In order to play you have to hold the DS and have your other hand holding the stylus to ’strum’ in time with the music. Am i the only one that sees hand cramps coming?

Small amounts of songs etc have been announced: No Doubt, Nirvana and OK Go. Problem, we have already had songs in other Guitar Hero games from these artists. Anyone else feel that this might lead to song repeats?

With Rock Band around the corner and the immense push for Guitar Hero 3 in the advertising media at the moment, probably to combat the looming Rock Band giant which will smash and thrash guitar hero into last year, are Activision grabbing at strings with no balloons?

I think so.

Then again if Activision want to change my mind send me a free copy? Prove me wrong, go on I dare ya.

EDITORIAL

Podcasting revolution revolutionised internet radio, could it do the same to games?

I’ve been podcasting (recording and listening) for a while now, I love the Hotspot, Arrow Pointing Down, BEAT.British (shameless plug), i love the Buzz Out Loud and I love watching video podcasts on my ipod touch.

But I own a Wii, and ofcourse I own a DS, (beautiful in black).

All those lovely rumors that bounced around about the Wii downloading demos for my DS automatically that I might be interested in. This sounds really fantastic, it could quite possibly be new evolution to portable gaming.

I can see it now. *insert drifty daydream music here*

Due to the slow week in news this was all we talked about… sorry.

Oh and the labor party called, I think they were confused…Kind of wish we could have talked to them about net neutrality… grr.

Grapevine: Bioshock 2?

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

grapevine1.gif

Bioshock coverBioshock 2? Well in Take two’s latest financial earnings report ‘Bioshock 2′ is listed as a future title. It even stated a ‘release date’ November 2009, much to the quiet keyboard tapping of the masses.

This comes during an interesting time for Take Two, with EA at their back, the hostile takeover is getting closer and closer. Personally I’m hoping that a hostile take over will be a fart in the wind. I starting to think that EA are geting a bit too big, what is this industry without competition? hmm?

No information was released as to what will be in the game, which would have been a bit weird in a financial report.

In any case a Bioshock 2? I’m happy and I know Ed will be when I tell him tomorrow. ;)

PODCAST

NOTE! Due to the fact that I am a very stupid individual I attached the wrong podcast to the feed and so some of you may have had the wrong file, I am sorry and It won’t happen again. :)

Hello and Welcome to another BEAT.British Podcast!

Just Ed and Me this week.

This time we talk about Lost Odyssey it’s fantastic gameplay and story and it’s disk read errors. We pay our respects to Gary Gygax (rest in peace) creator of D&D and grandfather of the modern RPG. Consequently we talk about how D&D has effected games in the modern day. Stories vs Grinding. Crisis Core (which I mentioned on ‘The Grapevine‘, yesterday) -from this I talk about Final Fantasy VII and how awesome it is. Adventure games and how much we love them, and how they really were a big part of the early days of games.

we also had lots of random interruptions… (sorry)

EDITORIAL

It’s something of a mystery, midnight launches. They do strange things to nerds and gamers (please excuse the word, I know It’s blasphemy). In any other industry (other than grand opening of ikea where three people died from being trampled ), it creates mass panic. Where is the logic? Logic. OK lets use Vulcan logic:

Grapevine: Microsoft and Blu-Ray

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

grapevine1.gif

Blu-ray diskSo Toshiba and HD-DVD ‘Lost’ the High-Def disk format war. Toshiba bowed out last week and said that they would no longer be building for the format. What did this mean for gamers? Well firstly it ment that the PS3 wouldn’t be as useless as everyone thought, and second that Xbox360 owners who brought a HD-DVD add on, suddenly had a very expensive paperweight.

But all is not lost as on Thursday Microsoft spoke out on the subject at the ‘Mix08 Internet conference’:

“We’ve already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on,” Ballmer said. “Toshiba has moved on. We’ve moved on, and we’ll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense.”

So things look promising for those Xbox360 High-Def Junkies, although no direct mention of A Xbox360 Blu-ray addon and no announcement yet. I’d say it’s a safe bet it’s going to happen.

Hey on the bright side, HD-DVDs are now really cheap…

Grapevine: Crisis Core

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

grapevine1.gif

Crisis core CoverReasantly the intertubes have been reporting more and more on Crisis Core for the PSP.

Crisis Core is (incase you don’t know) a spin off of Final Fantasy VII for the PSP.

This has got me personally very exited as I LOVED Final Fantasy 7 (and most of it’s sequels). After reading a preview or two on this title I have discovered that the materia system is back (possibly the greatest magic system EVER devised by man), be it a little restricted.

The game will feature around a character called “Zack Fair” who works for SOLDIER, the company who owns Midgar and are sucking the life out of the planet they live on. It is only a spin off and will not be a long hawl big sprawling RPG. It’s battle system seems to be very in tandem with the latest final fantasy offering (Final Fantasy XII) a kind of real time/turn based mash up, something which I feel fixed the issue of grinding in the Final Fantasy series.

Crisis Core will feature voice acting, in engine cut scenes , a really cool FMV intro sequence (ahh the good old days…) and has no official release date other than ‘about a month’ in the US. Be assured that I will be posting a review and first impressions (not necessarily in that order) when I import it.
